Very Low Calorie Diet

Much is made of very low calorie diet (VLCD, according to its acronym in English), most of the time without knowing its use, its scientific or its rationale.
A report by the Obesity Task Force (a group dedicated to studying and combating obesity that brings together scientists from around the world) and Scoop (European Association for the study and treatment of obesity) concludes, after examining and reviewing more than 400 clinical studies conducted to date in people using the VLCD, the following:
.- It is the diet most studied of all diets for weight reduction.
.- Check “truths” absolute, such as: a slow and moderate decrease in weight is more effective and rapid descent is unsafe is absolutely erroneous concepts.
.- Until 2002, 30,000,000 people had done this type of treatment. As of today, apparently 55,000,000 people since 1970 have participated in these programs between 400 and 800 calories.
.- VLCD diets appear to be superior to LCD (low calorie diets, between 900 and 1200) and “food plans” on what makes the safe descent and long-term maintenance.
.- It is a safe and effective in weight loss.
.- Monitoring clinical trials in more than 50,000 people over long periods of VLCD showed no abnormalities in laboratory tests or electrocardiogram.
.- The practical diets do not prevent a normal life, are effective, safe and create satiety without using drugs.
.- Balanced supplements, minerals, amino acids, vitamins and hydration in the long run we will make an insignificant number of adverse reactions.
.- generated showed no increase of gallstones.
.- There is no single test that will generate increased or worsening eating disorders (such as bulimia, compulsions, binge eating, anorexia).
.- There is no added difficulty common to any diet that inhibits proper maintenance.
.- The calcium loss studies show that what is lost is what is added to gain weight. Bone density is not never enough.
.- The yo-yo (cyclical effect) does not belong to these diets, but the obese with all diets.
.- They are suitable not only for morbid obesity but for any level of overweight (Study of Minnesota).
.- There is no scientific reason to endorse the interruption or the use of the method. Moreover, it is very discouraging to have to interrupt.
.- Old studies reported loss of lean mass (protein), which probably made them dangerous. The review of these showed no reliable validation or control them.
.- The loss of lean body mass would be given only to those who have a body mass index (BMI) of less than 20.
.- The loss of lean (too little) is inherent and necessary to the overall weight loss, since weight gain is not 100% fat.
.- It is preferable to use continuous rather than intermittent use.
.- there is ample justification for both medical, scientific and population by the use of VLCD diets, whether liquid or solid with an energy level less than 800 calories.
We conclude that, as with any diet to lose weight, appropriate medical supervision is necessary for its implementation as it is the path that is used for any medication given for other diseases.
This statistic reports clinical and scientific world show how many more or hasty words should be silent.
